Schwarzbein Principle
Introduction & Overview
“Shape up a America” seems to be a sentiment that is appearing in the media more and more these days due to statistics showing that many of us are overweight or obese. America has been the land of plenty, and the American diet has taken its toll on many people. So when the wake up call comes, whether it’s from our doctor or ourselves, we still have to figure how we’re going to lose weight. There are some really successful supplements and plans on the market, but there are also a lot of lemons, which is why it’s important to take a really close look at whatever adjunct you may be considering using.
The Schwarzbein Principle is a weight loss plan that has generated a lot of consumer interest as of late. It is a book-based plan that was written by Diana Schwarzbein called The Schwarzbein Principle: the Truth about losing weight, being healthy and feeling younger. For many people, these three aspects of life are forever tied together, and according to Schwarzbein, there are reasons for that. Let’s take a look at the Schwarzbein Principle to see if its concepts may indeed help people feel younger, be healthier and achieve weight loss.
System at a Glance
The Schwarzbein Principle is a life plan that developed out of Dianna’s work with diabetics. She suggests, even in the title of her book, that this plan may help get weight back on track and that it may fight off disease and help ease aging. However, her ideas may seem a bit radical when you first read them—she says that low-fat diets can bring about heart attacks, eating fat can help us lose weight and that some high-cholesterol foods are good for us.
System in Focus
The Schwarzbein Principle offers consumers her version of a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet, which she suggests may help balance insulin, which is responsible for many of our health and weight-related woes. In her book, and on her website, she indicates that traditional high-carbohydrate, low-fat diets may accelerate the aging process, shut down our metabolism and instigate weight gain, cravings, mood swings and depression.
She has shifted away from the food pyramid model, and instead, she has developed her own “food box,” which incorporates four groups: fats, proteins, carbohydrates and non-starchy vegetables. In her diet, these foods need to be eaten together in just the right amounts to balance the hormonal system. As many of us know, and as Schwarzbein reiterates, sugar is bad and potentially addictive. She also recommends certain supplements, like multivitamins, Magnesium, Calcium, 5-Hydroxytryptophan and essential fatty acids. We were surprised that she did not include a high-quality appetite suppressant, such as Hoodia, in this array of supplements, because it is one of the most tested and effective herbal extracts on the market.
Diet Lifestyle
Schwarzbein likes to call her diet a "healing program." She supplies users with 4 weeks of menus and recipes, which she indicates are designed to get your endocrine system and metabolism back into shape. These meals supply only 15 grams of carbohydrates and contain foods from the four groups we outlined above. A typical day on this plan would include “scrambled eggs and sausage, oatmeal with butter and cream, and sliced tomatoes for breakfast; Cobb salad with olive oil and vinegar dressing and an apple for lunch; and roast pork loin, brown rice with butter, asparagus with butter, and a mixed-greens salad with olive oil and vinegar dressing for dinner.”
Positives
• Book may be on sale
Negatives
• Experts suggest that it may increase cholesterol levels and decrease energy
• No proof that it may increase metabolic function
• Their customers do not like them at all and have negative things to say about their experiences. Click here to read a popular The Schwarzbein Principle Blog.
Final Thoughts
The way the ideas are presented in the Schwarzbein Principle suggest that this book is offering you something new, but the truth is that it is just another variation of the common high-protein, low-carb diets. These diets seem to indicate that their ratios have something to do with the weight loss that many occur, but for the most part, any weight loss is due to calorie restriction.
Also, some users have reported that they feel fatigued on this plan, which is no doubt partially due to its restriction of carbs. The body needs carbs for energy, and when we don’t have enough, fatigue often ensues. This is an issue many consumers have discussed in length on blogs and forums, where it received negative ratings. It also contains a tremendous amount of saturated fat, which, regardless of her theories, has been found to be very unhealthy for the heart. From what we can tell, for all these reasons, this plan was not asked to take part in the $1000 program. Only the safest and most effective products are asked to join this unique program, and the Schwarzbein Principle simply does not have what it takes to be considered.
