Optifast®
Introduction & Overview
Optifast® is a weight loss program that is advertised as a “serious solution for weight loss.” This program is offered through various hospitals and clinics throughout the country and by doctors who are said to be trained in obese weight management. This program is rather rigorous, as it is designed to be used by people who want to lose at least up to 50 pounds. Furthermore, it appears that the diet lifestyle mostly consists of a liquid diet.
We will take a closer look at this product to determine how effective it may be. However, we do want to note that it was not one of the plans selected for the $1,000 consumer incentive prize giveaway program on this site. Currently, the products and programs selected were the ones that received the most consistent consumer feedback.
Program at a Glance
This diet was designed specifically for obese individuals, and, as mentioned, is monitored by trained physicians. This diet does consist primarily of meal replacements and was designed in 1974. The diet industry has mostly evolved away from this approach, and many people may find that this program appears to be rather outdated.
Program in Focus
This program often requires at least 26 weeks of dedication and perseverance. Unfortunately, the first 12 weeks is complete meal replacement where consumers are on a strict liquid diet, which is likely to be quite hard to follow. The following six weeks is a gradual transition back to solid food, and the remaining time focuses on developing a regular, nutritious diet that is meant to be maintained thereafter in order to support sustained weight loss results.
Diet Lifestyle
This program offers monitored workouts and suggested exercises to do at home. The plan does require a lot of time to be dedicated to this program to show results, but since it’s led by healthcare professionals, some people may be comfortable with the demanding aspects of this program.
However, we do want to note that not everyone in the medical community supports this plan, and there are health professionals who speak out against this program. Many dieticians feel that such a harsh diet lifestyle is unrealistic and does not address the issues or the reasons that the dieter is obese to begin with. In addition, there are many medical professionals who are worried about the effects a three month liquid diet can have on the body, and feel it is not a healthy lifestyle and does not instruct the dieters on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle after completion of the diet. However, dieters are said to receive education and counseling on healthy eating habits.

Final Thoughts
In the end, this program was designed only for those people who are severely obese. It is not meant for everyone. Furthermore, it’s likely that many people may find that the strict diet lifestyle is too hard to follow, or that the plan is too expensive. Dieters must pay a monthly fee, which is usually around $550, and then they must continue to pay about $100 a week for the meal replacements. Due to the duration of the diet, the end cost of this program may be in the thousands of dollars. Fortunately, there are plenty of other options on the market when it comes to weight loss support. We suggest finding a dietary supplement that contains a proven appetite suppressant and patented metabolism booster in order to increase the results of a diet and exercise plan. Those supplements that contain the proven ingredients Hoodia Gordonii and Advantra Z® have been shown to promote both safe and effective results.
