Master Cleanse
1 Introduction & Overview
MasterCleanse Some diets start out as weight loss plans from the beginning, but there are other plans and adjuncts, such as the Master Cleanse, that end up being used as a weight loss method, but which were originally intended to address other issues. This often happens with pharmaceutical drugs as well as holistic supplements. From time to time, these products may actually help create weight loss, but sometimes popular opinion is the source of their status, rather than actual effectiveness. Also, when it comes to weight loss, there are those diets that are created to be quick fixes, but once the dieter starts to eat a normal, healthy diet, the weight comes back quickly.

This is often why informed consumers look for weight loss plans and supplements that may help them manage the road to long-term, sustainable weight loss. We all want to get into our skinny jeans, but we also want to stay in them. The Master Cleanse was created by Stanley Burroughs in 1939 or 1941, depending upon which source you’re using. Either way, it has been around for over 60 years.

However, while it may be used as a weight loss plan today, this is not why Burroughs designed it—he actually created this cleanse program to help individuals cleanse their body of toxins. But the weight loss movement co-opted it, so we wonder if it may safely help with weight loss.

Diet at a Glance
The Master Cleanse Diet claims to be a complete body detoxifying cleanse that was designed to remove toxins from the body, as well as help address and prevent certain conditions, such as ulcers. It was also believed to be a good way to keep good health on track. There are many different types of cleanses and fasts available today, and the Master Cleanse is just one of them. On any cleanse or fast, no food is eaten, but some liquids are allowed. On the Master Cleanse, a Lemonade-like concoction is used, as is a laxative tea. The purpose is to help the digestive system rest, clean out and repair itself.

Diet in Focus
The Lemonade used in the Master Cleanse is not bought in the store. It is made at home by combining lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. While some experts suggest that this concoction may help encourage weight loss, it’s really used to keep your body hydrated, to keep your blood sugar up and to keep a few vitamins coming into your body. This lemonade is sipped throughout the day, but it is in no way an adequate replacement for a meal, and because of this, some dieters report experiencing side effects like dips in energy, body aches, cold-like symptoms, headaches, dizziness, weakness and hunger. A Senna Leaf laxative tea is also used on this plan in the evening to help dieters pass stools. However, because of this effect, some individuals may experience diarrhea and loose stools. This diet was originally intended to be used for 3 to 7 days, but some individuals keep it going for up to three weeks.

Diet Lifestyle
While many individuals swear by this system as a way to enhance health, there is very little research that supports its use. In fact, some health care providers warn against using it because the body already has its own mechanism in place to deal with waste and toxin removal. Research has shown that the colon, under normal conditions, knows exactly what it has to do and is continually shedding old cells, soaking up nutrients and maintaining the delicate balance between bacteria and natural chemicals. In fact, some health care providers suggest that using colon cleansers may actually alter this balance and cause more problems than they solve. This concern may have been the reason this diet plan was not included in this site’s $1000 giveaway program, which collected the market’s most successful and proven products for a special cash prize opportunity. We feel its absence from this list is a telling sign of this plan’s abilities.

Positives
• Diet plan is inexpensive
• A lot of information available online

Negatives
• Not originally designed as a weight loss plan
• Weight loss is often quickly regained
• Their customers do not like them at all and have negative things to say about their experiences. Click here to read a popular Master Cleanse Blog.

Final Thoughts
Whether you agree or disagree with the principles behind The Master Cleanse, one thing is clear: it was designed to address health issues, ease certain conditions and prevent future illness. We know many readers want to know if the Master Cleanse may be able to boost weight loss, so we will put it as simply as possible. This cleanse, by the sheer fact that no food is eaten and a laxative is used, has helped some, but not all, individuals lose weight. This weight loss is almost always short-lived and quickly regained once the Master Cleanse is discontinued and the individual starts eating normally.

This means that this is not in our view a “true” weight loss plan, and unlike most other weight loss plans, this cleanse may have side effects, which we outlined above. Also, it is important to note that this is a book-based plan, so there is no customer service available. Customers must come up with their own answers if they have any questions. There are far better options available today, and some of the best options are included in this site’s $1000 giveaway program.
