Alli®
1 Introduction & Overview
Alli Alli® is a relatively new diet pill that gained some attention before hitting the market because it is the first over-the-counter weight loss supplement that was given approval by the Food and Drug Administration. The product received the approval after a conclusive study indicated this supplement could help people lose up to one pound per month. Such results certainly do not sound amazing, but there are some that believe Alli® may be the new answer to weight loss. However, as with most trendy products, the downsides and backlash of this new diet pill are beginning to emerge.

This product was not selected to be part of the $1000 prize giveaway on this review site. It appears that only the highest quality supplements with the best ingredients were selected to be participants in this program. Nonetheless, we will still take a closer look at Alli® to determine what benefits it may provide to a weight loss program.

Ingredients At A Glance
This diet supplement basically consists of a reduced-strength version of Orlistat, which is a prescription drug meant to treat obesity. This supplement is meant to be used in conjunction with a low-calorie, low-fat diet as well as regular exercise. Oftentimes, if weight loss is achieved with such a program, it is usually due to the increased exercise and healthy diet and not necessarily the diet pill.

Ingredients in Focus
While people often describe Alli® as a “carb blocker” or “fat burner,” it is actually a fat inhibitor. This product is said to work by preventing the absorption of fats into the body. According to an online description, this diet pill is claimed to decrease the absorption of fat by the intestines. This is achieved by disabling the enzyme Lipase, which is found in the digestive tract. The function of Lipase in the body is to break down dietary fat into smaller components so that it can be stored for future energy use.

Due to how Alli® works, the manufacturer recommends that customers eat no more than 15 grams of fat per meal. If more fat is consumed, it may cause unwanted side effects, such as uncontrollable bowel movements, diarrhea and gas with oily spotting. These side effects are part of the major backlash against this diet product and often the reason why some people have discontinued use of this supplement.

Consumer Reviews
As with most diet pills, the consumer reviews for Alli® are mixed. However, we did come across an alarming amount of negative testimonials posted online. These reviews mainly centered around the annoying and potentially embarrassing side effects that are associated with this product. Many people have reported to “poop” their pants while using Alli®, and many reviews state that bowel movements may quickly become uncontrollable. To the manufacturer’s credit, they have always been upfront about these possible side effects and even suggest that people wear dark pants or carry a change of clothes around with them when first using this product. They even suggest first taking this product during the weekend so that you can stay close to home—of course meaning the bathroom.

Final Thoughts
In the end, Alli® is most likely not the new miracle diet pill. While this product may have gained a lot of attention when it was first introduced to the market, its potentially messy and embarrassing side effects have led to a fair amount of backlash. Furthermore, this product is not designed to lead to significant weight loss and may only provide minimal results at the most. Fortunately, there are plenty of other options on the market, so we suggest finding a supplement that has been proven to help suppress the appetite without causing uncontrollably loose bowels.
